1.4 Guide 2.1 Guide 3.x Ideas BMS
| |
There are two user guides available on this site, the manual for the previous version of CODA (1.4) and for the current version (2.1). The CODA 2.1 manual contains a Quick Startguide to get you started with that version. This is a good starting point for the new CODA user.
The 1.4 manual was written in Framemaker as a paper manual, we used the export to HTML feature of Framemaker 5 to export the paper manual to the web pages. Sadly this seems to have saved the manual in the form of GIF images of each page and the original Framemaker source can't be read by the more recent versions of that program. It is therefore almost impossible to update the CODA 1 manual to correct any
mistakes. The postscript version of the CODA 1 guide is still available for download from ftp://ftp.jlab.org/coda , many parts of this manual are valid for CODA 1.2, for example the event format and the CAMAC libraries have not changed.
For those who may be interested we are forming plans for the third generation of the CODA software which we expect to be ready in time for use in the Hall D project. This system builds on the earlier CODA versions and takes advantage of advances in hardware and software technologies which were not available when those systems were designed. We are attempting to document this version of CODA right from the start. When CODA 2 was being written we were under pressure to have a system ready for the first halls coming online. This has left major parts of CODA 2 undocumented for many years. Since Hall D is still some time in the future we hope to be able to document CODA 3 correctly from the start and complete the CODA 3 documentation.
